We don’t want to make too many gender-based assumptions, but we’ve noticed that most guys don’t seem very open about discussing skin care. We get it. It’s partly due to societal influences. For decades past, the skin care industry has been so heavily focused on women — even blanketing the category as “beauty”.  Most of us guys grew up without being taught to care about anything other than sunscreen (if that). Today, we have permission and even expectations to keep up with our skin, but many of us don’t know where to start.

As part of our blog series —”Our Journey to Wellness”— Joey and I thought we’d tackle a few aspects of skin care.  As great as it is to look handsome, our goal is not solely tied to vanity.  It’s about feeling confident and staying conscious of the health of our skin, which contributes to greater self esteem and overall greater well being.

ULAH visits Bare Med Spa

It’s no surprise that men have unique skin care needs. Our skin tends to be more oily and tougher than our female counterparts. So, to help get things started on our mission to a clearer complexion and healthier skin, we’ve started by visiting our friends at Bare Med Spa for a procedure they call “HydraFacial M.D.” Our esthetician was Tracy Gundelfinger. She’s super knowledgable about skin care needs, and customized each of our treatments. I’m fairer skinned with more sun damage and larger pores, and Joey’s ethnic skin has its own unique qualities. I asked Tracy some questions about my skin – here’s what she said:

1. What did you notice about my skin that prompted you to recommend a HydraFacial M.D.?

“After pre-cleaning and assessing your skin, I could tell that you had clogged pores and were in need of a deep pore cleanse and a good exfoliation. HydraFacial is the best treatment for that.”

2. What will this HydraFacial M.D. treatment do for my skin?

“HydraFacial will give you a deep pore cleanse, extraction, exfoliation and infuse your skin with hydration. Keeping your pores as clean as possible will minimize them.”

3. Does the treatment vary some per person depending on their individual skin issues?

“Hydra facial is good for all skin types and skin concerns. Although some of the steps in the treatment will be the same for each client there are also ways to customize for different skin concerns. We’re able to do peels, brightening serums, and dermal plumping serums as well as choose between blue light and red light therapy at the end of each treatment to cater to various skin types.”

4.  How often do you think I need to do this treatment with my skin issues and skin type?

“For your skin, once a month is ideal for good maintenance.”

Joey and Buck enjoy clearer complexions after their HydraFacials from Bare Med Spa.

The biggest difference we saw after the HydraFacial was clearer complexion with a boost of self confidence. If you’d like to learn more, visit Bare Med Spa at one of their three locations or call and make an appointment. And if you have any questions about this or any of our other topics, you can always ask us in person when you visit ULAH.
